Today we stopped in Prince George; tomorrow we will be driving on the Alaskan Highway in the Yukon. We might not be posting for a couple of days because we are going to try to do some camping in the Yukon. We visited the train museum in Prince George. This picture is of a wooden train snowplow that was built in 1903 and used through the 50's when it was replaced with a steel plow.
Tell us a little more about the pickup. You must have an overdrive! Anything special about the engine? Hi compression head? Babbitt or insert bearings? 400 - 500 miles per day is sure a lot.
ReplyDeleteKnowing Ken, its a high compression head with bearing inserts and of course an overdrive. One of his A/C systems, custom heater, 12VDC -ground system with modern one wire alternator, cruise control and a whole spare truck tucked away in the bed under all their luggage.
ReplyDeleteMarshall as Red said I usually run A hopped up inserted motor overdrive A/C and everything else. If you look on my website you will ses Red driving my Model A Speedster that he helped build when he was in Highschool. We won the Highschool x-cup division in 2003 Greatrace. This truck has been in storage for 20 years the trip is my son's highschool graduation present. I pulled a low mileage babbit motor out of the truck last fall that I would not drive very far from the house it will be inserted and installed back in the truck latter on. Now to answer your original question I temporary installed a Pinto motor and 39 transmission for this trip. This trip is for fun and I tried to make the truck maintenance free so far so good. After 40 years in this hobby I will not run babbit anymore inserts sibce 1988.
